Ohio State HC Ryan Day gives blunt answer regarding Lou Holtz heading into National Championship vs. Notre Dame

Ohio State and Notre Dame are set to clash in the National Championship a week from now in Atlanta.

With the Buckeyes set to face Notre Dame, one talking point that has come up has been Ryan Day’s postgame comments toward Lou Holtz the last time these two teams played in 2023.

Day called out Holtz for some of his comments regarding the Buckeyes after a 17-14 win for Ohio State over Notre Dame last season.

“I’d like to know where Lou Holtz is right now,” Day said after that win. “What he said about our team, I cannot believe. This is a tough team right here. We’re proud to be from Ohio.

“It’s always been Ohio against the world, and it’ll continue to be Ohio against the world. But I’ll tell you what: I love those kids. We’ve got a tough team.”

Day was asked on Sunday whether or not he and Holtz have spoke since then and the Ohio State head coach gave a quick answer.

“No.”

Of course, none of this is going to matter. The better team is going to win the National Championship, that is why the game is played. The beef from Day and Holtz doesn’t appear to be ongoing and it looks like they have no want to speak to each other. Holtz was the head coach at Notre Dame from 1986-1996.

Ohio State will look to keep their momentum going and to finish the job after beating Tennessee, Oregon, and Texas. Notre Dame aims to keep it rolling after downing Indiana, Georgia, and Penn State.

We will see if either side has anything to say ahead of the 7:30 p.m. ET kickoff next Monday down in Georgia
