The Ohio State Buckeyes were fortunate not to lose a single scholarship player to the spring transfer portal—a testament to the strong culture maintained in Columbus by head coach Ryan Day.
Only a few walk-on players opted to enter the portal , while the Buckeyes added a couple of new pieces to the roster. The most notable addition was North Carolina transfer defensive end Beau Atkinson, who recorded 7.5 sacks last season.
Meanwhile, one former Buckeye has found a new opportunity for the next chapter of his college football career.
According to multiple reports, the former Ohio State running back will stay in-state and suit up for the Youngstown State Penguins. Caffey will have two years of eligibility remaining, thanks to a redshirt. A member of the 2022 recruiting class, he spent three seasons in Columbus.

Caffey leaves Ohio State with career totals of 10 carries for 66 yards. His highlight came as a true freshman, when he broke off a 49-yard touchdown run. Unfortunately, injuries plagued his time in Columbus. He was expected to be the third-string running back behind TreVeyon Henderson and Quinshon Judkins last season, but another significant injury derailed those plans.
After missing back-to-back seasons, Caffey now has a chance to make an impact at Youngstown State. Don’t be surprised if the 5-foot-10, 215-pound back carves out a meaningful role with the Penguins. A step down in competiion from the Big Ten will benefit Caffey, who has shown he can make an impact with the Buckeyes early in his career.
