Oklahoma and Texas receive final approval needed for SEC move in 2024

Oklahoma and Texas are going to the SEC, officially.

This is not new news and it is certainly not unexpected news, but ESPN is reporting that it's now official news.

The Oklahoma Board of Regents approved the contractual agreements with both the SEC and Big 12 to make the change official. Texas had previously signed the agreements, which means there are no more hurdles standing in between the Sooners and Longhorns joining the SEC on July 1, 2024.

In the meantime, they will be part of a one-year-only "superconference." With BYU, UCF, Cincinnati and Houston joining the Big 12, the conference will be at 14 teams for the 2023 season.

"We have a year of competing there and competing for Big 12 championships before we move on to the SEC, so we want to continue to be very respectful, very positive and a contributing member of the Big 12," Oklahoma athletic director Joe Castiglione said. "But obviously, that moves us to do the right things to make sure we're planning every aspect of our transition next year from this summer."

Speaking of superconferences, the SEC, which is already stacked, is going to be a literal "murderer's row" in 2024.

The conference is adding Texas and Oklahoma to a lineup that already features Alabama, Georgia, LSU, Florida, Texas A&M and Auburn -- not to mention the likes of Texas A&M, South Carolina, Tennessee and Arkansas.

SEC football is always must-see, but it will be even more palatable in 2024.
