Oklahoma Makes Major Announcement About Texas Matchup For 2025 Season

Brent Venables and the Oklahoma Sooners are looking to make a major bounce-back during the 2025 college football season.

To put it politely, the Sooners struggled quite mightily in their inaugural SEC campaign. Despite being a blue blood program, they weren't quite ready to take on college football's deepest, most talented conference.

Venables and Oklahoma posted a 6-7 record on the season, with a 2-6 SEC record. It was the second time the Sooners' head coach had a losing record, which came in just three seasons with the program.

Needless to say, the former Clemson defensive coordinator could be on the hot seat if Oklahoma's struggles continue into the 2025 season.

Evidently, the arrival of offensive coordinator Ben Arbuckle, combined with an offensive reload led by quarterback John Mateer, the Sooners are expected to put together an improved campaign.

The daunting SEC schedule will pose another challenge, though. Oklahoma will have a solid litmus test against a familiar foe early in the season, however.

While the Sooners have a non-conference game against Michigan and a matchup against Auburn (and Jackson Arnold) to kick off their SEC schedule, they take on Texas on October 11 as their second conference matchup.

On Thursday, Oklahoma officially announced a kickoff time for the Red River Rivalry.

Oklahoma and Texas will kick off at 2:30 for a game that will be aired on ABC or ESPN, as the Sooners announced.

The Red River Rivalry is one of the most iconic, history-rich matchups in the sport of college football. Fans don't love the draw, as the iconic matchup being played at 11:00 a.m. local time is the preference for them.

Another notable bit in the announcement is a 6:30 p.m. local time, primetime matchup against Michigan, which features two iconic programs.

Arch Manning will be a full-time starter for Texas as Oklahoma aims to bounce back in the rivalry.

The past three matchups between the Sooners and Longhorns have been quite a rollercoaster, and that shouldn't change in 2025.
