Oklahoma Names Captains for Tulsa Game

Oklahoma named team captains for this week’s game at Tulsa.

Junior defensive end Ethan Downs , senior defensive end Trace Ford, junior offensive tackle Tyler Guyton , senior tight end Austin Stogner and sophomore cornerback Gentry Williams will represent their teammates this week when OU plays at TU.

Williams, a first-year starter from Tulsa, is a surprise pick to lead his squad in his home town, as he’s not only a young player but he's also coming off an injury in last Saturday’s win over SMU, after which head coach Brent Venables said Williams seemed “a little stiff.”

Downs, from Weatherford, was a preseason pick for the All-Big 12 team.

The other three captains are all transfers (Ford from Oklahoma State, Stogner from one year at South Carolina) or former transfer (Guyton from TCU).

The Sooners and Golden Hurricane kick off at 2:30 p.m. at Chapman Stadium. The game will be carried by ESPN2.

OU leads the all-time series 20-7-1, including 7-3 in Tulsa.
