In 2024, the Oklahoma Sooners dealt with maybe the worst injuries in the entire country. In 2025, they haven't had nearly as bad of luck, but they are dealing with some . On Tuesday, head coach Brent Venables gave an update on starting center Troy Everett and his injury.
"Just devastating. I hurt for him. He's really tough, and he'll move on forward," Venables told reporters during his media availability.
Everett was injured during their game against the Michigan Wolverines. There aren't a ton of details out yet regarding the injury, so we can update you when there are, but it obviously isn't good. And, while Jake Maikkula took over and has played well, the Sooners are now down a guy at a position that doesn't seem to have much depth.
Sooners OL Troy Everett will miss the rest of the season.

Brent Venables: "Just devastating. I hurt for him. He's really tough, and he'll move on forward."
Everett was set to be the backup behind Maikkula, had he come back healthy. Now, the only player listed behind Maikkula at center is true freshman Owen Hollenbeck. If Maikkula were to get hurt, they would have to rely on a true freshman, or they would see which other guys on the offensive line can play center, despite it not being their primary position.
And, the center position is not easy by any means. Not only do you have to pass block, you also have to snap the ball perfectly, get up into the second level of defenses on some run plays, call out blitzes and defenders before the snap, and so many other things that happen behind the scenes that the average fan watching on TV may not see.
On Tuesday, offensive coordinator Ben Arbuckle also said that he wasn't worried about the depth at the position. But he's supposed to say that. That's coachespeak because why would he say he's worried? If he did, that could cause some of the players on the team to lose confidence in themselves.
On Saturday, the Sooners will play the Auburn Tigers, who have a good defense, but not an elite defensive line. They have some good edge rushers, but those guys won't meet Maikkula in the interior often unless the defenders are running stunts and picks for each other. Oklahoma just has to pray that Maikkula doesn't get hurt.
