Oklahoma Sooners' Brent Venables somewhat gives update on Deion Burks while discussing blatant targeting no-call

On Saturday night, when the Oklahoma Sooners had a lead against the Missouri Tigers but lost the game late in the fourth quarter, there were really two situations that took the breath out of the building for Sooners fans, well, the ones that were there in Columbia, Missouri.

The first was obviously when Jackson Arnold fumbled and the ball was returned for a touchdown late in the game, and that was the touchdown that put the Tigers up after being down by a score. The second one was shortly after when Deion Burks was hit helmet to helmet and took a very long time to not only get up and walk off the field with guidance but to even move.

Burks lay on the field after being hit in the head by one player and hit on the shoulder by another. He was defenseless and the defender led with the crown of his helmet.

Not only was it the most blatant targeting no call I have ever seen, but it was by the rule book and definition, a targeting call. And, to make matters better, or worse, they didn't even review it. They had about 15-20 minutes to think about a possible review while Burks was being attended to on the field, and they didn't even think about it.

Luckily, Burks was able to walk off. He needed help, but he was able to walk off.

After the game, head coach Brent Venables somewhat gave an injury update and revealed what he was told about the no-call.

"They said it wasn't targeting, and so, he's [Deion Burks] under [concussion] evaluation right now."

The Sooners didn't lose because of penalties and bad officiating. But, that certainly didn't help. Like, For the "holding" call at the end of the game when OU had Missouri stopped and looked to try and force a turnover on downs for the win.

Or when Jackson Arbold threw a perfect ball to Brenan Thompson down the field late in the game and Thompson was being put in a chokehold in the air, yet nothing was called.

It was bad all night long. And that targeting was easily the worst of them all.
