Oklahoma Sooners just re-entered the conversation on an elite recruit who turned them down not long ago

Jim Nagy and the Oklahoma Sooners recruiting team should really be opening their focus back up to 2026 edge rusher DeAnthony Lafayette, who previously chose the LSU Tigers over OU. Now, he's decommitted from LSU, and Oklahoma is a team to watch.

Oklahoma's 2026 class is heating back up again

The Sooners are on fire right now with their 2026 class. Just when we thought they were done with the 2026 class, or near the finish line, just waiting for National Signing Day, the Sooners flip another player.

Right now, they've been working on getting guys who are decommitting from these schools who just fired their head coach. That's schools like LSU, the Florida Gators, Arkansas Razorbacks, Penn State Nittany Lions, and a few others. They will be working to do that with Lafayette.

When Lafayette, a four-star edge rusher from Orlando, Florida, made his decision to commit to LSU, it was clear that Oklahoma was second, or at least third. They went after Jake Kreul even harder after missing out on Lafayette, but can now circle back and get two elite edge rushers for their 2026 class.

The 6'1, 230-pound edge is also pretty interested in what Miami has to offer. It's somewhat close to home, at least closer than Oklahoma is, and they're on a roll right now with recruiting. It also helps that Miami head coach Mario Cristobal is an elite recruiter, and Miami could be in a position to make the College Football Playoffs.

Oklahoma has some competition for Lafayette, but it's obvious they have re-entered the conversation for another four-star recruit.
