Fall camp is here, and that means the intensity is really turning up a notch, or a few notches, actually. For the Oklahoma Sooners, they are entering fall camp with a lot on their mind, but nothing bigger than how do they overcome one of the hardest schedules in the country.
As long as the Sooners aren’t the same team as last season, then everything should be okay. Then again, is that hard — they were by far one of the worst offenses in the country, and oftentimes saved by an elite defense. This could end up being a very good team, but because of their schedule, still only win eight or nine games, which probably won’t be good enough to make the postseason.
So, this is easily the most important fall camp of Brent Venables career. The expectations are there. He’s had two losing seasons in three years at Oklahoma, which are the only two losing seasons since the 90s. This year has to be so much better, and he knows that.
Not to mention, the moves he made this offseason put even more pressure on he no the team, because the moves were amazing. There’s not really any excuses anymore. No one cares if you deal with injuries. This is all or nothing.
So, yeah, this fall camp is huge. And the players, feel it, too. There are some position battles going on already that are getting heated up just on Day 2 of fall camp.
There’s a real battle going on at Sooners fall camp for this 2025 season at the left guard spot. Really, there are some pretty big battles everywhere on this roster. And, that’s a doesn’t always mean that a position group is bad because there isn’t a definitive guy at that position, or a star player, per se.
In this case, it’s because there isn’t a so much great depth and experience all over the roster.
This particular position battle is between Eddy Pierre-Louis and Heath Ozaeta, two guys who have a ton of potential at the position. But, without seeing anything, really, that Ozaeta did on Friday, it feels like Pierre-Louis may have won the day.

He had one play in particular that was pretty insane, a pancake block on defensive tackle Trent Wilson.
Pierre-Louis is making plays, and he’s making statements. And, it’s barely the first week of fall camp. If the boys continue to work like this, there is no telling what team we will see this season.
