Oklahoma Sooners send an offer to elite defensive prospect even though he likely wouldn't produce until 2028

In today's world of college football, and really any era, you have to stay prepared for anything the future may bring, but especially when it comes to recruiting. The Oklahoma Sooners, along with every other team, are trying to do that with some of the recruiting efforts they are making.

This is a team that, under head coach Brent Venables, is defensive-centric, so you know they will recruit heavily on that side of the ball. That doesn't mean they are forgetting about offense, but the defensive side of the ball is what Venables knows the best.

And recently, he's submitted yet another offer to a defensive player, one that has elote potential. But, knowing how stacked these defenses get, he likely wouldn't even be able to produce on the field until 2028.

Oklahoma Sooners offer 2027 DL Luke Starcevic

Luke Starcevic, a class of 2027 defensive end from Kindred High School in Kindred, North Dakota, is a top football prospect that the Sooners seem to have a ton of interest in. The current HS sophomore has the size and athleticism to dominate on the defensive line when he gets to college. He’s already received scholarship offers from schools like Iowa State, Kansas State, Minnesota, Nebraska, Wisconsin, Illinois, Iowa, and Oklahoma.

On3 ranks him as North Dakota’s No. 1 prospect and the No. 9 defensive lineman in his class. Starcevic leads Kindred in sacks, tackles-for-loss, and quarterback hits. He scored a touchdown in the 2023 North Dakota Class A state championship game and recovered a fumble for a touchdown in the playoffs. In 2024, he helped Kindred go undefeated in the regular season, though they lost 14-12 in the Division A Dakota Bowl.

With how the Sooners recruit on the defensive side of the ball, there is a good chance that Starcevic won't see the field much until his second year of college. But that doesn't mean that's for sure how it will all go. Last year, we saw guys like Jayden Jackson become starters as true freshmen.

But, having him on the team, developing him, and turning him into a monster would be awesome for Oklahoma.
