Ole Miss Rebels assistant coach Derrick Nix has officially joined Hugh Freeze and the Auburn Tigers as the program’s next offensive coordinator.
The Ole Miss account on X (previously known as Twitter) posted a thank you message to Nix for his time in Oxford, one you can view below.
According to Ole Miss’ statement, the program will begin the search for a new wide receivers coach immediately “with the objective of finding the best fit to coach the top wide receiver room in America.”
A native of Atalla, Alabama, Nix spent his playing days with the Southern Miss Golden Eagles where he also began his coaching career as a graduate assistant in 2003. He had a stop with the NFL's Atlanta Falcons in 2007 before joining the Ole Miss staff in 2008 as the running backs coach, a position he held through 2019.
Once Lane Kiffin gained the head coaching job in Oxford, Nix shifted to the role of wide receivers coach, a post he has held ever since. He was named assistant head coach in 2022.
