Ole Miss Rebels head coach Lane Kiffin announced he tested positive for COVID-19 and will miss Monday’s season opener against the Louisville Cardinals.
Kiffin, who revealed in August that Ole Miss had a 100% vaccination rate, shared Saturday on Twitter that he has a breakthrough case of the coronavirus and won’t travel with the team to Atlanta.

The 46-year-old coach is coming off his first season with the Rebels. Ole Miss finished 2020 with a 5-5 record, including a victory in the Outback Bowl. With a majority of the starters returning for the 2021 season, the program is a 10-point favorite for Monday’s Chick-fil-A Kickoff Game against the Cardinals.
Ole Miss hasn’t announced who will take over head-coaching duties for Monday’s game. It’s presumed the offensive game plan for the contest and play-calling will be coordinated by John David Baker and Jeff Lebby.
