The 2024 college football season has yet to conclude but many national media networks are already looking ahead to next fall.
No. 5 Texas is still in the thick of the College Football Playoff and will next face No. 8 Ohio State in the semifinals on Jan. 10. Steve Sarkisian's squad hopes to reach the national title game this season behind several key playmakers who are set to enter the 2025 NFL Draft this offseason.
Players such as Kelvin Banks. Jr, Jahdae Barron, Quinn Ewers, Cameron Williams, Alfred Collins, Gunnar Helm, Andrew Mukuba and Isaiah Bond are a few of the biggest names expected to leave the program this offseason.
However, college football analysts still expect Texas to compete on the national stage in 2025 due to the impressive depth on the Longhorns roster. Former five-star Arch Manning looks primed to lead Texas at quarterback, while star playmakers in Anthony Hill and Colin Simmons return on the defensive side. Sarkisian's recent success in the transfer portal is also noteworthy.
That being said, On3 Sports views Texas as the No. 1 team in the country heading into the 2025 season. Andy Staples and Ari Wasserman revealed their top 10 teams heading into next season and the Longhorns took the top spot followed by Oregon (No. 2), Ohio State (No. 3), Penn State (No. 4), Notre Dame (No. 5), Georgia (No. 6), South Carolina (No. 7), Clemson (No. 8), Florida (No. 9) and Auburn (No. 10).
