Over the past two seasons, the Big 12 Conference has had the deepest collection of running back talent in the country.

The league saw a record seven running backs drafted in the 2025 NFL Draft, and for the upcoming college football season, that leaves more questions than answers. Who will emerge as the Big 12’s top rushing threat, and will they come from the usual suspects?

Well, according to PFF’s latest rankings of the top 10 running back rooms in the country, there might be one unit that has a bit of a head start on the rest of the league.

Penn State and Notre Dame return nationally recognized names at the position, putting them at No. 1 and No. 2 on the list. However, there are several other schools that return proven talent, and perhaps the most overlooked of those is Baylor.

The Bears sneak into the list at No. 10, thanks to the incredible duo of Bryson Washington and Dawson Pendergrass.

Here’s what PFF had to say about the backfield in Waco for 2025:

Bryson Washington ran for 1,035 yards in his redshirt freshman season and was 13th among Power Four running backs with an 87.9 rushing grade. His 4.1 yards after contact per attempt were also 12th in that same group.

Dawson Pendergrass also had a strong second season, posting an 80.5 rushing grade while running for 671 yards. The Bears also welcome in a four-star true freshman in Michael Turner this year.

Baylor returns a host of other offensive weapons around Washington and Pendergrass, too, and none more important than quarterback Sawyer Robertson, who just might be a Heisman dark horse candidate.
