Texas A&M has landed a major quarterback commit in Jayce Johnson, an elite 2027 prospect ranked No. 3 nationally at his position.

The Valdosta (Ga.) standout selected the Aggies over finalists such as Florida State, Mississippi State, Tennessee, and South Carolina. His decision represents a significant early win for head coach Mike Elko and offensive coordinator Collin Klein.

Standing 6-foot-3 and weighing 210 pounds, Johnson brings a dual-threat skill set and poise that exceeds his age. In 2024, he completed 123 of 183 passing attempts (67.2%) for 1,799 yards, 16 touchdowns, and just three interceptions. He added 318 rushing yards and three rushing scores to his resume. Those performances established him as a top national recruit.

Recruiting analysts highlight the significance of the timing. A&M coaches reportedly have pursued Johnson since middle school, building a longstanding relationship that helped set them apart. His official visits to College Station in June reinforced a consistent recruiting effort that ultimately paid off.

Texas A&M enters 2025 still in search of long-term QB stability. The Aggies have aggressively pursued signal-callers in multiple recruiting cycles and the portal. Johnson’s commitment adds another talented piece to a developing room that plans for life beyond current starter Marcel Reed.

For Aggie fans, this signals a major step in future building. Johnson fits the frame and throw-first style that Klein values. His leadership and connection with current players also offer early chemistry. While practice fields remain years away, his verbal pledge places A&M in elite company among future SEC quarterback rosters.
