Oregon Ducks, Dan Lanning Trending Towards Landing 5-Star QB

The Oregon Ducks and head coach Dan Lanning were hoping to land a commitment from elite five-star quarterback Jared Curtis. That didn't happen, as Curtis decided to take his talents to play for the Georgia Bulldogs.

After losing out on Curtis, Oregon has another five-star quarterback on its radar.

Enter Ryder Lyons, a quarterback from Folsom, California. He has been a target for the Ducks and Lanning for quite some time and now they're after him with even more aggressiveness.

According to On3 Sports, Lyons is ranked as the No. 4 quarterback in the 2026 recruiting class. He is also ranked No. 10 in the nation and No. 1 in the state of California.

Right now, Oregon is trending well to land a commitment from Lyons, although that is subject to change at any given moment.

Lanning and the Ducks are currently being given a 52.5% chance of landing Lyons' commitment from On3 Sports. There is only one other team in the running at this point in time, with the USC Trojans given a 45.6% chance to land Lyons.

Back in December of 2024, Lyons was named the Gatorade California Football Player of the Year. In the past, Lyons has spoken very highly of playing for USC and head coach Lincoln Riley.

“USC is high on my list. There is a lot to like about USC," Lyons said. "You have coach Riley. He has coached great quarterbacks that have won the Heisman Trophy and been drafted No. 1 in the NFL Draft. He is a great offensive mind and the defense is now playing at a different level.”

Oregon may be leading the percentage race right now, but there is a lot of work to be done. After missing on Curtis, Lanning will need to put a full-court press on Lyons to make sure he lands one of his top quarterback targets.
