The Oregon Ducks recently hosted talented defensive line recruit Marcus Fakatou in Eugene, and his reaction after the trip suggests that Oregon coach Dan Lanning and the Ducks nailed his visit.

"University of Oregon! What an incredible visit, everyone did such a great job over the past two days showing me what it’s all about. My family and I really appreciate the hospitality, and a big thank you to the coaches for sharing so much knowledge with me," Fakatou posted onto his social media pages.

Oregon Ducks Make Move for Marcus Fakatou

Fakatou is a five-star recruit according to 247Sports, but he's currently rated as a four-star recruit by Rivals. Still, Fakatou comes in at No. 28 overall in Rivals' Industry rankings for the class of 2027, and he's the No. 3 player from the state of California in the same rankings.

Lanning and the Ducks have few questions at the defensive line heading into the 2026 season with four starters returning in Matay Uiagalelei, A'Mauri Washington, Bear Alexander, and Teitum Tuioti.

Younger Ducks like Nasir Wyatt and Aydin Breland will likely be relied upon as depth pieces during the fall because most of Oregon's backup defensive linemen transferred out of the program. Those effects are impacting how the Ducks recruit the defensive line in the class of 2027, seemingly making Fakatou a priority.

Oregon has already added four-star defensive lineman Zane Rowe and four-star EDGE Cameron Pritchett, but Lanning and company made a major move for Fakatou during his latest visit.

“This is crazy to see but they’re at the 1 spot right now,” Fakatou told Rivals reporter Adam Gorney after his visit to Oregon.

Fakatou released his top 10 schools in February before taking a number of spring visits, and the caliber of schools that are recruiting him speak to his ceiling as a prospect.

Oregon Ducks vs. USC Trojans Recruiting Rivalry

Fakatou seems to want to play for a defensive head coach with Notre Dame's Marcus Freeman and the Fighting Irish trending at times in his recruitment, but USC still looms as an option close to home.

The USC Trojans have re-emerged as recruiting powers on the West Coast, and USC coach Lincoln Riley and the Trojans have also proven their ability to land prospects outside of California. On Thursday, USC added another recruit with the commitment of three-star running back Javon Vital out of Louisiana.

The Ducks weren't a finalist for Vital, but the Trojans have picked up some recruiting wins over Oregon, landing four-star cornerback Danny Lang and five-star safety Honor Fa'alave-Johnson.

Additions like Lang and Fa'alave-Johnson aren't the first defensive recruits that USC has had success in landing either. After the Trojans landed multiple recruits over Oregon, USC's social media account seemed to poke fun at one of Lanning's familiar sayings about the grass being green in Eugene.

Lanning was recently asked if he had any reaction to USC's activity on social media.

“No reaction. Much more focused on winning in the fall.”

While Lanning's response is likely what Oregon fans wants to hear, the Ducks coach is still very active on the recruiting trail. Can Lanning and Oregon's staff land Fakatou over USC, Notre Dame, and the rest of his blue-blood-filled top 10?
