The Oregon Ducks have done a great job filling in the quarterback position with transfers like Bo Nix and Dillon Gabriel. Both were huge success stories that helped take Oregon to new heights. Dante Moore could be that next success story at quarterback, but Dan Lanning clearly knows it's time to get the future taken care of at the position too.
This offseason has been all about prioritizing the quarterback recruiting, and Lanning may have his guy in five star Ryder Lyons, but that's far from a lock. Knowing most of the top options are already committed elsewhere, Lanning and his staff made sure they have a solid back up in place this week by locking in one final visit with yet another four star passer.
Matt Ponatoski is one of 20 quarterbacks that Dan Lanning and Oregon have been pursuing to some extent for the 2026 recruiting class. He's been rising steadily up recruiting boards over the past several months as someone who could end up being ranked inside the Top 150 when the 2026 class is finalized.
He's a bit undersized at 6'1", 195 pounds, but he brings great arm talent and requisite mobility. As of this week Ponatoski has locked in a final official visit with Oregon on the weekend of June 20th, which may of course be accompanied by a commitment either then or shortly thereafter depending on what happens with five star quarterback Ryder Lyons.

Lyons is of course still Plan A as a Top 20 player in the nation, and expert picks are trending towards Oregon with him, but Ponatoski has a lot in common with him and continues to rise thanks to his wildly impressive junior season.
Ponatoski showed to be one of the most productive and efficient passers in the country last season completing around 70% of his passes for nearly 60 touchdowns. He won several honors in the state of Ohio, finishing as the official "Mr. Football" and the Gatorade Player of the Year. Not bad for a back up plan at quarterback for the Ducks.
Oregon is technically still in the running for a couple other four star quarterbacks, but Lyons and Ponatoski look the team's solid one-two punch plan to lock in hopefully sometime soon this summer. Lanning just needs to close the deal so the team doesn't get left out in the cold for 2026 entirely. Either way, Dante Moore, Austin Novosad, and a couple other scholarship quarterbacks look like they have Oregon in a good place at the position for now.
