Oregon Ducks tight end Spencer Webb dies in cliff-diving accident

Oregon Ducks tight end Spencer Webb died in a cliff-diving accident Wednesday afternoon at age 22, the Lane County Sheriff's office in Eugene, Ore. confirmed.

Police say Webb suffered a fatal head injury near an area called Triangle Lake and that "there is no evidence of foul play and his death appears to be accidental." Both Oregon's current head coach Dan Lanning and former head coach Mario Cristobal reacted to the news on social media.

Webb was set to begin his fifth year as a student-athlete at Oregon and play his redshirt junior season in 2022 after catching four touchdown passes in his first the last three seasons. Webb redshirted in 2018 and got an additional year of eligibility after playing only one game during the pandemic-shortened 2020 season.

Prior to his arrival at Oregon, Webb starred at Christian Brothers High School in Sacramento, Calif. He was a consensus four-star recruit who chose Oregon over offers from several other universities, including UCLA, Florida State, and Texas A&M.
