When you play football, injuries happen frequently. Bumps and bruises happen onften as well as serious injuries like broken bones and torn ligaments. This is why most players end up missing time. Every so often, there will be an illness that will prevent them from suiting up.

That is what ended up happening with Oregon Ducks tight end Terrance Ferguson this week, as he missed the game against the Purdue Boilermakers. In his postgame press conference, head coach Dan Lanning said that Ferguson had his appendix removed earlier in the week, causing him to miss the 35-0 win.

"Terrance is a real tough guy. In the middle week, he started to feel his appendix, he actually had to have his appendix removed," said Lanning. "We're expecting a quick recovery based on what that looks like for him and being smart with him. But if it was up to him, I promise you, he would have been out on that field today, even with some stitches in his side. So I think he'll be back, you know, relatively quick. But we want to do what's best for Terrance. And he's a tough kid, you know, this guy's played with a lot of injuries. This is not one that you can really go play with when you have your appendix removed."

It's a tough injury for Ferguson to deal with as the appendix can go at anytime. It also makes it difficult to judge the recovery time. It all depends on how bad the appendicitis is. When I had mine removed, it was so bad that I couldn't return to work or lift a gallon of milk for six weeks. Some have it much easier with a 1-3 week recovery timeline. Lanning saying that they are expecting a quick recovery likely means that he will be back sooner than later.

Lanning does hope that Ferguson will end up returning to the field this season where he's been impactful for the Ducks. A senior, Ferguson has 20 receptions for 321 yard this season and has been a key component in their running game.
