During the 2024 college football season, Oregon Ducks quarterback Dillon Gabriel was one of the best players at his position. However, leading up to the 2025 NFL draft, he is barely being talked about by the national media.
Gabriel is widely expected to be one of the final big name quarterbacks drafted. It's surprising, but that has been the reality of his projections throughout the entire pre-draft process.
Oregon saw its standout quarterback complete 72.9% of his pass attempts for 3,857 yards, 30 touchdowns, and six interceptions last season. He also picked up 149 yards and scored seven touchdowns on the ground.
Standing in at 6-foot-0 and 200 pounds, there are some concerns about his size. He is not the ideal size for an NFL quarterback, but his production in college doesn't lie.
A new prediction has been made for where Gabriel could end up in the 2025 draft, which is scheduled to begin on Thursday night.
CBS Sports analyst John Breech has predicted that Gabriel will be drafted by the Miami Dolphins in the fourth round with the No. 135 overall pick.
"The Oregon QB set the college record for passing touchdowns (155) and total touchdowns (189) during an impressive college career, but if there's one big knock on him, it's the fact that he's only 5-foot-11," Breech wrote. "In college, he thrived by making quick decisions, which is something that Dolphins coach Mike McDaniel loves to see in a quarterback. If there's any NFL offense where Gabriel could succeed, it's likely the one that McDaniel is running in Miami."
Landing with the Dolphins would be an intriguing opportunity for Gabriel. Tua Tagovailoa has not been able to stay healthy throughout his career, which could open the door for playing time.
Former No. 2 overall pick Zach Wilson is the current backup in Miami. If Tagovailoa were to go down and Wilson struggled, Gabriel could push for playing time.
