OT Aaron Thomas decommits from Ohio State; top ACC team a likely landing spot

It's not often the Ohio State Buckeyes lose a recruit, but crazier things have happened on the recruiting trail.

This one also makes sense when you look at the grand scheme of things, though.

On Monday, it was announced that Aaron Thomas, a three-star offensive tackle from Phoenix, Arizona, had decommitted from the Buckeyes.

He had been committed to OSU since June of 2025, but his father, Eric Thomas, played at Florida State from 1995 to 1999. Hunter Shelton of Rivals is also reporting that the Seminoles have been working hard on a flip.

They offered Thomas in April of 2025. It sounds like Thomas was waiting for an offer from the Seminoles and was a bit disappointed that it didn't come sooner, but he understood that he was being evaluated for more than just his ties to the program.

“They were definitely later than I would’ve liked, but that’s OK,” Thomas told Hunter Shelton of War Chant in June, after his official visit with Florida State. “I’d rather them give me the offer because I earned it and not because of my dad being a former player. I know I earned it. I like them more now than I even did before the visit. They got to know me, and I got to know them. That was really important.”

Now, Thomas is officially back on the open market as a recruit and you can bet that the Seminoles will be working hard to get him to commit sooner rather than later.

Thomas checks in at a massive 6-foot-7, 300 pounds. He's ranked as the No. 52 offensive tackle in the 2026 class, according to 247Sports.

Though this is a loss for Ohio State, Ryan Day and the Buckeyes should be able to weather it, no problem.

The Buckeyes still have 21 commitments in their 2026 class, and the group is ranked No. 9 nationally.
