Over 700 players entered the college football transfer portal on Monday

College football has a new transfer portal and with immediate eligibility now available for first-time transfers and undergraduates, the end of the college football season has basically become free agency.

It's the wild wild west out there, and the first day the transfer portal opened, this Monday, proved that much. In fact, 771 college football players entered the transfer portal seemingly the moment they were able to.

For comparison's sake, the most names entered seen before was 270, and that was in the window that was opened on November 21st of this year.

It's incredible to think about where college football has found itself. It used to be that transferring to a different school was unheard of or at the very least extremely limited. Sure, it made sense in the case of players seeing their head coach go somewhere else and it even made sense for graduates who wanted to transfer, but now almost any player can decide to up and leave.

Don't like how hard your coach has been on you? Leave.

Lost your starting spot to a better player? Forget embracing being a backup and competing to get the starter's job back. Just go somewhere else?

Worried about the talent in the new recruiting class coming onto campus? When the going gets tough...well, the college football players get going.

Some notable names to have entered the portal so far include Oklahoma State quarterback Spencer Sanders and Clemson quarterback D.J. Uiagaelelei. Michigan quarterback Cade McNamara also entered the portal but he quickly announced his commitment to transfer to Iowa.
