The 2024 Heisman Trophy appears to be a two-person race between Travis Hunter, a do-everything star from the No. 25 Colorado Buffaloes (9-3), and Ashton Jeanty, the standout running back from the No. 11 Boise State Broncos (11-1).
FanDuel Sportsbook has Hunter as the favorite to win the prestigious trophy at the end of the season. On offense, he has recorded 92 catches for 1,152 yards and 14 touchdowns. On defense, he has made 32 tackles, secured four interceptions and 11 pass deflections.
Jeanty has recorded 2,288 rushing yards and 28 touchdowns, putting together a historic season. His 2,288 yards rank fifth all-time, leaving him just 341 yards short of breaking Barry Sanders' all-time record of 2,628 yards set in 1988. Additionally, his 28 touchdowns rank ninth all-time, 11 short of Sanders' record.
During Saturday's "College GameDay," Pat McAfee announced his Heisman Trophy pick, choosing Hunter as the winner.
"I believe, although I'm not Joe Tessitore and the College Football Playoff committee and I don't have a Heisman vote, I think he solidified a Heisman for the Colorado Buffaloes," McAfee said.
Both players delivered outstanding performances on Friday. Hunter made 10 receptions for 116 yards and scored three touchdowns, adding two pass deflections and one interception in his team's 52-0 victory against the Oklahoma State Cowboys (3-9).
Jeanty rushed for 226 yards and scored one touchdown in his team's 34-18 victory over the Oregon State Beavers (5-7). One advantage for Jeanty is that he will have another game to showcase his skills before the voting is finalized. This is because the Broncos will compete in the Mountain West Championship Game next weekend.
Hunter and Colorado remain in the Big 12 race but will need some favorable outcomes on Saturday. Needless to say, both players are putting on historic performances and deserve the honor.
