With the college football season almost here, the preseason Associated Press top 25 poll was released on Monday.
The top five teams were Texas, Penn State, Ohio State, Clemson and Georgia.
As always, the preseason poll sparked plenty of debate, and among them was some lively conversation from college football insiders Heather Dinich and Paul Finebaum.
After the poll was released, they hopped on "ESPN College Football" to share their thoughts on the poll reveal.
First, it was Dinich who revealed that her best team at the moment is Penn State.
"This person here has Penn State No. 1 and the reason is when you look at preseason rankings, you should go with what you know," Dinich said.
Dinich mentioned the quarterback play with the return of Drew Allar and the hire of new defensive coordinator Jim Knowles.
"There is no reason for Penn State, at least on paper, not to be the No. 1 team going into this season," Dinich concluded.
Finebaum, on the other hand, had other thoughts about the best team "on paper" and wasn't afraid to let Dinich know.
"Heather, I don't know what side of the bed you woke up on today, but you are completely wrong on all of these fronts," Finebaum stated.
"I think Alabama frankly should be No. 3, and going back to her point about Penn State, I realize this is the best team on paper, but James Franklin's still the head coach...I'll believe it when I see it when Penn State wins a big game."
So, Finebaum does think Penn State is the best "on paper," although he has large reservations about the Nittany Lions' head coach and whether or not he can win the big game.
Despite those opinions, Texas took the top spot in the AP poll, although Penn State was just five points away, marking the tightest finish for the top two teams since 1998.
Texas has a massive start early on with a showdown against Ohio State, but Penn State begins the year with games against Nevada, Florida International and Villanova before hosting Oregon on September 27.
