Payton Thorne raises the passing touchdown ceiling for the Auburn Tigers significantly
USA TODAY Sports

Between TJ Finley and Robby Ashford quarterbacking Auburn a season ago, the Tigers only had nine touchdowns through the air.

One of these touchdowns was thrown by running back Jarquez Hunter, meaning the quarterbacks only threw for eight touchdowns a season ago.

Transfer quarterback Payton Thorne threw 19 touchdowns a season ago for Michigan State in a season many called a "down year."

This means that if Payton Thorne comes in and has a "down year" this season on the Plains, the Tigers will get 11 more touchdowns through the air.

Now I know the system is different with Coach Freeze on the Plains, but the point is the ceiling of this passing attack has been raised a ton by bringing in an experienced veteran in Thorne.

I fully expect this running game to get a lot of work and the Tigers to score on the ground, but I believe Auburn will score a lot more through the air this season as well.

With Coach Freeze and Thorne taking over, I expect this Auburn offense to put up a lot of points in 2023.
