Nevada, FIU, Villanova. That's Penn State's murderer's row of a non-conference schedule.

This is already one of the nation's best and most experienced teams, but any kinks that need working out will go bye-bye after the first three weeks.

Nevada will be better than last year's 3-10 campaign. It lost a slew of close battles, was competitive for most of the season, and it'll collect its paycheck from Penn State and then go deal with Sacramento State and Middle Tennessee.

Why Nevada Will Win

The Wolf Pack lost a ton in the portal, but they got a good back in Herschel Turner from Utah State, the receiving corps should be a low-key positive early in the season, and quarterback Chubba Purdy - yeah, Brock's brother - has just enough experience to make this thing go.

There's no way Nevada can keep up the pace if this gets into a shootout, but it can slow things down just enough to gain some semblance of control for a few decent drives.

Why Penn State Will Win

Yeah, Nevada is in trouble.

It has a decent starting 22, and the portal helped the depth, but it lost a ton on the O line - led by star Isaiah World taking off to Oregon - and the defensive front won't have a prayer once the Penn State line starts to mash away.

And about that controlling the clock thing. Yes, Nevada should be competent enough to go on a few good drives, but the defense still has to prove it can come up with a third down stop.

Penn State will look like the best team in America, because it probably is.

The pressure will be off quarterback Drew Allar thanks to the running game taking over early on. It won't be a razor-sharp day, and it might not be the total annihilation some might like, but the team will get in, get some work done on the timing of the passing game, and move on.
