Penn State Wide Receivers Coach Released Immediately 2023
Kim Klement-USA TODAY Sports

Breaking News came out of Penn State on Sunday, January 15th regarding the football team’s coaching staff. It was released that Penn State wide receivers Coach, Taylor Stubblefield would no longer be with the Nittany Lions, effective immediately. Stubblefield released his statement on Twitter as soon as the news broke, where he thanked Penn State and the fans for his time with the team.

Penn State Wide Receivers Coach Released

Stubblefield has been the wide receivers coach since 2020, and the school will now be on the hunt for a new one. Stubblefield released his statement in a tweet that can be read here, posted on his own account. Stubblefield discussed the accomplishments he had the honor of being a part of. He also used the opportunity to thank many of the players he was able to work with over a couple of years as the Penn State wide receivers coach.

Based on the statement he made, Stubblefield appears to have appreciated his time with the Nittany Lions. The most recent win with the team was the 2023 Rose Bowl, where the Nittany Lions beat Utah 35-21. Penn State went 11-2 this season, only losing to Michigan and Ohio State.

The Penn State Nittany Lions head coach James Franklin made a statement regarding the release of the Penn State wide receivers coach. Franklin stated that Stubblefield has been relieved of his duties, effective immediately, and thanked him for his time. The Nittany Lions are set to have a young receiving core, with multiple players declaring for the 2023 NFL Draft this year.

It is not too much of a surprise that Penn State would make coaching changes. Ahead of the 2023 Rose Bowl, Franklin did state there would be a number of moving parts throughout the coaching positions. According to Audrey Snyder, Penn State reporter for The Athletic, Franklin stated, “There’s a lot of moving parts left, but we’ll see how it plays out. But I’m hopeful that we will retain the majority if not all the staff.”

It is still unclear what exactly led to the release of the Penn State wide receivers coach, but with a young Nittany Lions team, there will be many players to develop. In the 2023 season, Penn State recorded 3,283 receiving yards and 29 touchdown receptions, according to ESPN. While the school had a great rushing offense, the receivers played very well this past season.

The Nittany Lions have produced many strong wide receivers, such as Jahan Dotson, who currently plays for the Washington Commanders. More can be expected to play in the NFL in the 2023 season as well, just most likely will not be drafted as early as Dotson was.

The Nittany Lions will be focused on building up their offense this season, especially with a new quarterback taking the lead. Whoever becomes the next Penn State wide receivers coach will be coming in at the perfect time with an offense ready to explode.
