Pitt has had a wide receiver visit and has another scheduled to make it out to Pittsburgh this week, but the coaching staff is still targeting wide receivers aggressively.

There hasn’t been an offer extended yet, but Wake Forest transfer wide receiver Deuce Alexander — a 6-foot, 175-pounder from Douglasville, Ga. — has heard from Pitt since he entered the portal Tuesday.

According to Steezo Designs, he’s heard from the likes of Oklahoma State, Wisconsin, Pitt, Kentucky, Auburn, Michigan, Iowa, Mississippi State, Maryland, Boston College, Ole Miss, Virginia, Virginia Tech, Georgia Tech, Indiana, Illinois, Louisville, Stanford, Duke and Minnesota.

He has three seasons of eligibility remaining at the college level after redshirting as a freshman in 2023.

Alexander was a mid-level three-star recruit out of Douglas County High in the class of 2023, choosing the Demon Deacons over a long list of (majority) Group of Five offers. Pitt was one of his few Power Four offers.

Alexander played sparingly as a true freshman, recording just two catches, but he broke out this season as a valuable member of the wide receiving corps. He hauled in 36 receptions for 400 yards (11.1 yards per reception) and two touchdowns.

According to PFF, he lined up in the slot on just under 80% of his 261 passing snaps. He was able to create after the catch (169 yards after catch, 4.7 YAC per reception) and averaged 1.63 yards per route run with an average depth of target of 10.5 yards. He dropped just three balls on the season.

He thrived as a deep threat this season, hauling in eight of 15 receptions at least 20 yards downfield for 222 yards (27.8 yards per reception) and both touchdowns.

Alexander is a young, high-upside wideout who will be in high demand throughout his recruiting process. It will be important to land him on a visit if the relationship is to progress.

Pitt is losing lead wideout Konata Mumpfield next season, and while Kenny Johnson is slated to return (offering a potential leading wideout), it’s a wide receiving corps that got worse as the season progressed.

Johnson, Poppi Williams, Censere Lee, Zion Fowler-El and Tyreek Robinson are the wideouts in line for playing time right now, but it’s clear the coaching staff will look to add to the room.
