For the second time in the last 24 hours, the Pitt Panthers have extended an offer to a defensive lineman in the transfer portal with WPIAL ties.

On Wednesday, an offer went to former Youngstown State and McKeesport graduate Deamontae Diggs and today, the Panthers extended an offer to Illinois defensive line transfer Anthony Johnson, who attended Jeannette High School. Coincidentally, Johnson attended Youngstown State before transferring to Illinois.

In the past few days, Johnson reports that he’s also received offers from Michigan State, Mississippi State, Georgia Tech, UAB and Kansas State. Johnson has already arranged a visit to Mississippi State on April 22nd.

Pitt is obviously interested in bringing in some experience to their 2024 defensive line after losing players such as Tyler Bentley, David Green and Devin Danielson to graduation and Deandre Jules to the transfer portal.

Last year before committing to Illinois, Johnson held other offers from Pitt, Wisconsin, Michigan State, Rutgers, Texas A&M, Arkansas, Houston and SMU.

Johnson has one season of eligibility remaining.
