Darrelle Revis may not be suiting up for Pitt tonight, but he’ll be down on the field at Acrisure Stadium to help the Panthers.

Before Revis is honored for his Pro Football Hall of Fame induction during Pitt’s matchup against No. 14 Louisville, he will serve as the honorary captain during the opening coin toss.

“Excited to welcome back (Darrelle Revis) as tonight’s Honorary Captain and to recognize him for becoming Pitt’s 10th Pro Football Hall of Fame inductee,” Pat Narduzzi wrote on Twitter.

He is the third Quip and 10th Pitt Panther to be enshrined in the Hall of Fame, which is the most of any high school and the fourth most of any college in the country, after officially being recognized at the HoF ceremony in August.

Revis, obviously, is one of the greatest athletes to come out of Western Pennsylvania. He starred at Aliquippa High School in the early 2000s, winning two WPIAL Class-2A titles and the 2003 PIAA Class-2A state championship in which he scored five touchdowns three different ways — blocked field goal, punt return and three rushing.

He stayed home at Pitt for college, playing for Walt Harris in the mid-2000s, and he quickly emerged as one of the best defensive backs in the Big East. In 35 games at Pitt, he racked up 80 tackles (66 solo), five tackles for loss, eight interceptions and returned two for touchdowns — and he scored two more punt return touchdowns.

“On behalf of the University of Pittsburgh, I want to congratulate Darrelle Revis on his incredibly deserved election to the Pro Football Hall of Fame,” Pitt head coach Pat Narduzzi said following Revis’ election. “When you say ‘shutdown corner,’ you immediately think of Darrelle. I don’t think anyone played the position better than him. He simply dominated opposing wide receivers, whether it was at Aliquippa, Pitt or in the National Football League.”

The New York Jets selected Revis with the 14th pick in the 2007 NFL Draft, and he went on to put together his Hall of Fame professional career.

In 11 NFL seasons with the Jets, Tampa Bay Buccaneers, New England Patriots and Kansas City Chiefs, Revis racked up 496 tackles (411 solo), nine tackles for loss, 29 interceptions (three returned for touchdowns), 139 pass breakups, four forced fumbles and 12 recoveries.

He is a seven-time Pro Bowler, four-time first-team All-Pro and a member of the PFWA 2010s All-Decade team. He also won Super Bowl XLIX with the Patriots in 2015.

Revis is the third former Aliquippa star to be elected to the Pro Football Hall of Fame, joining Law and Mike Ditka. And he is Pitt’s 10th enshrinement in Canton, joining Ditka, Joe Schmidt, Tony Dorsett, Dan Marino, Russ Grimm, Curtis Martin, Rickey Jackson and Jimbo Colvert.

Ditka and Ty Law have been elected to the Hall of Fame from Aliquippa High School.
