Pittsburgh loses QB Nick Patti to arm injury in Peach Bowl

The Pittsburgh Panthers were forced to turn to a third-string quarterback in the Peach Bowl after losing Nick Patti to an arm injury.

Patti was starting in the place of Kenny Pickett, who opted out of the bowl game to begin preparations for the 2022 NFL Draft. In the first quarter of the Peach Bowl, Patti scored on a 16-yard rush that included a dive to the pylon to tie the game, 7-7.

Patti immediately grabbed at his arm and exited to the locker room, eventually returning with his pads off and his arm in a sling. He was replaced in the game by sophomore Davis Beville, who threw four passes earlier this season and threw 10 passes last year as a freshman.

Beville led Pittsburgh on an 87-yard drive just before halftime that included a 52-yard pass and was capped by a four-yard touchdown pass. The touchdown gave Pittsburgh a 14-10 lead over Michigan State at halftime. The lead was expanded to 11 points when the Panthers scored a defensive touchdown on the third play of the second half.
