Promising NFL Draft WR Addresses Underwhelming Performance at Pro Day

After clocking a less than ideal time in the 40-yard dash at Miami's Pro Day, former Hurricanes wide receiver Xavier Restrepo has addressed the concerns raised by NFL Draft fans and analysts alike.

Restrepo (5-foot-10, 209 pounds) was one of the most dependable slot receivers in college football for most of his five-year career at Miami.

Behind the arm of Heisman Finalist quarterback Cam Ward, Restrepo was at his best. The former three-star recruit recorded 69 receptions with career-highs in receiving yards (1,127) and touchdowns (11) in 2024.

Those numbers helped Restrepo finish his career as the program's all-time leader in receptions (200) and receiving yards (2,844). The Deerfield Beach, Florida, native has cemented himself in Miami lore ahead of his pro career.

Restrepo did not perform in on-field drills at the combine in Indianapolis last month, leaving his workout for his pro day on Monday. And questions were raised after Restrepo clocked an unofficial 4.83 in the 40-yard dash.

Not leaving his circumstances unknown, Restrepo provided some reasoning to his surprisingly slow time on Tuesday.

"Don’t usually do this but I feel like it’s necessary due to the circumstances," he wrote on X. "During warm ups yesterday before the 40, my right hamstring tightened up on me and prohibited me to opening up and running my fastest. The reason I still ran is because for 2 straight weeks I consistently hit 4.53-4.58 laser in training and thought I could still pull it off. I did everything just because it’s in my blood to compete. With that being said, I am now focusing on getting back to 100% healthy and getting ready to play football! Ready to let God take over!"

Unless Restrepo schedules a private workout for NFL teams, Monday was his last chance to show his athleticism before the draft in late April.

What Restrepo does have under his belt is some quality tape that shows a dependable receiver that can rack up yards after the catch. NFL teams could decide to resort to his play on the field and forget about what could have been a injury-plagued 40-yard dash.

The 2025 NFL Draft will take place from April 24-26 in Green Bay, Wisconsin.
