Alright, Josh Henson. Let’s see what you can do. The former coaching assistant with Barry Odom at Missouri, Henson took over the USC offense, did a nice job with Caleb Williams, and now he’s got the job of making the Boilermaker O go.
Purdue was the worst in the nation at coming up with first downs, averaged fewer than 16 points and 300 yards per game, and scored fewer than 20 points in eight games. So here come the transfers.

- The quarterback options are there with Ryan Browne going to North Carolina, and then coming back to Purdue. Evans Chuba (Washington State) and Malachi Singleton (Arkansas) are in the mix. No matter who gets the gig, being able to run a bit matters.
- The offensive line is starting from scratch with all five projected starters coming from the portal. That’s not a bad thing - last year’s front five couldn’t keep anyone out of the backfield.
It’s an interesting bunch. UNLV transfers Hank Purvis at one guard spot and All-Mountain West Jalen St. John at tackle should fit in right away, but Tyrell Green (Eastern Kentucky) and Marques Easley (Georgia) have the most talent.
Bradyn Joiner (Auburn) might turn out to be something big at guard, and 315-pound Giordano Vaccaro from the University of Manitoba is a sleeper at either center or guard.
- Devin Mockobee has led the Boilermakers in rushing for the last three years, and Malachi Thomas was part of the Virginia Tech running back rotation over the last three seasons. They’ll be fine if the blocking is there.
- The receivers are more serviceable than elite. Charles Ross (USC) and holdover De’Nylon Morrissette will likely work on the inside, and Nitro Tuggle (Georgia) and Corey Smith (Tulsa) are sleeper-dangerous on the outside.
With leading receiver Max Klare gone to Ohio State, there’s work to do at tight end. Christian Moore (UNLV) and George Burhenn will combine forces, but won’t match Klare’s 51 grabs.
