QB guru says Alabama should choose to ‘struggle’ with talented freshman

Respected quarterback trainer, Quincy Avery gave his thoughts on Alabama football’s quarterback situation after the Tide lost to Florida State.

Avery has trained Jalen Hurts, Patrick Mahomes, Jordan Love, Deshaun Watson and other notable quarterbacks. He feels the Alabama offense struggled against the Seminoles with Ty Simpson at quarterback and feels they were better off playing freshman quarterback, Keelon Russell.

“Alabama has a Freshman QB who is really talented,” Avery said. “If you gonna struggle may as well with the more talented guy.”

Avery later explained this was not a shot at Simpson.

“I think people took this in a way about Ty. I think he’s really talented,” Avery said. “I just know how coaches think is all.”

Simpson finished the game with 254 passing yards and two passing touchdowns.
