QB Will Rogers makes big decision about transfer portal

Former Mississippi State quarterback Will Rogers is sticking with Washington after all.

Rogers entered the transfer portal earlier this month following the departure of head coach Kalen DeBoer to Alabama.

ESPN’s Pete Thamel reported on Tuesday that Rogers has withdrawn from the NCAA transfer portal to remain at Washington and become the team’s expected starter for the 2024 campaign. The 22-year-old QB has reportedly informed new head coach Jedd Fisch of his decision.

Despite entering the transfer portal for the second time in two months, Rogers never shut down the possibility of staying with his new school. He is slated to replace Heisman finalist Michael Penix Jr. after the latter’s electric season that culminated in a College Football Championship Game appearance.

Rogers threw for 12,315 yards with 94 touchdowns and 28 interceptions in four seasons with Mississippi State. Rogers tallied the second-highest passing yard total in SEC history. Rogers’ 1,301 completions also ranks as the most in conference history by a wide margin.
