The college football transfer portal rumors continue to churn even with the College Football Playoff title game a few days away.

One big domino that ended up not falling was Texas Longhorns quarterback Quinn Ewers. There were reports in December that Ewers would be offered $6 million in the portal.

However, on Wednesday, Ewers decided to declare for the 2025 NFL draft, ending any transfer portal speculation.

On Thursday, a new report surfaced that Ewers "turned down" an $8 million offer in the portal.

If true, it is quite the move by Ewers to turn down $8 million to go to the NFL, and it has sparked plenty of reactions.

After the reports surfaced, former Florida State quarterback and current college football analyst Danny Kanell ripped into Ewers' decision with a post on X

"If Quinn Ewers turned down $8 million to play college football in 2025 it would go down as the worst financial decision we've seen since Ronald Wayne left Apple as a cofounder just 12 days after founding the company with Steve Jobs," Kanell wrote.

Kanell added right after that he doesn't believe the number is real, although Texas insider Chip Brown had the initial report of the $8 million figure.

For some perspective, Chicago Bears rookie Caleb Williams inked a four-year deal worth $39 million after being taken No. 1 in the 2024 NFL draft.

Ewers currently isn't projected in the first round of the NFL draft, so it seems unlikely he would make $8 million next season.

NFL insider Albert Breer pegged Ewers as a Day 2 pick right after the Texas signal-caller announced his decision, although he could work his way up depending on how the pre-draft process goes.

The Tennessee Titans selected QB Will Levis in the second round of the 2023 NFL draft, and he earned a contract worth $9.5 million over four years, so it's quite the offer that Ewers received.

While it is unclear which program offered Ewers the $8 million, that is still a hefty payday to pass up, although Ewers still has a great chance of making a ton of cash during his NFL career depending on how things turn out.
