The Texas Longhorns will undergo a long-awaited change in 2025, as Arch Manning is finally set to take over the program.
After three seasons leading the Longhorns, Quinn Ewers has moved on to the NFL, where he was recently selected in the draft. While Ewers is happy to be joining the Miami Dolphins, he admitted that the draft didn’t unfold the way he had hoped.
“I know the draft didn’t go the way I wanted it to, but at the end of the day, I have the same opportunity everybody else does,” Ewers said recently, via On3. “What better place to start the journey than in Miami and playing under a really, really good offensive mind in Coach McDaniel?”
Ewers will have a chance to compete for a spot behind Tua Tagovailoa and Zach Wilson as the Dolphins’ No. 3 quarterback. However, being drafted in the seventh round doesn’t guarantee him a roster spot—he’ll have to earn it.
It’s a tough reality for the former No. 1 quarterback recruit, but Ewers is taking an interesting perspective on his draft position.
“The way that it’s kind of been set up for me has been nothing short of unconventional, I think I would say,” Ewers said, via On3. “Skipping my senior year to enroll at Ohio State early, and then being there for not even a whole calendar year before deciding to return to my home state of Texas and really turn around a program that hadn’t consistently won in years.”
Now, Ewers is working to make it in the NFL as a seventh-round pick—something that’s easier said than done.
