On Saturday night, former Texas Longhorns quarterback Quinn Ewers' shocking slide in the 2025 NFL Draft came to an end.

The NFL announced on X that Ewers was selected by the Miami Dolphins with the 231st overall pick in the seventh round,

Once heralded as a the No, 1 recruit in the 2021 class and a cornerstone of the Texas Longhorns' resurgence under Steve Sarkisian in the recent years, Ewers' draft journey was a rollercoaster of expectations and setbacks.

Ewers showcased his talent with the Longhorns, boasting a 27-9 record as a starter and leading the program to back-to-back College Football Playoff appearances.

His college stats were strikingly impressive--9,128 passing yards and 68 touchdowns with a 65% completion rate over a three year stint in Austin.

In spite of the immense talent Ewers displayed as a Longhorn, recent concerns arose about his pocket presence and susceptibility to injuries.

Many projected him as a potential first rounder, but his tendency to bail on clean pockets and his over-reliance on checkdowns raised red flags to scouts and front offices.

For Mike McDaniel and the Dolphins, the pick represents a low-risk, high-reward gamble for a franchise that needs to turn it around.

With Tua Tagovailoa as the starter, Ewers has plenty of time to develop as a backup and has a golden opportunity to learn from a seasoned quarterback while addressing some of the major flaws in his game.

Ewers' fall may have bruised his ego, but it also offers a fresh start. If he can harness his raw potential and refine his skills, the Dolphins might have unearthed a late-round fem with the potential shine in the NFL.

Perhaps a similar situation to Brock Purdy being drafted in the seventh round by the San Francisco 49ers is brewing right now.

Being drafted that late can significantly ignite Ewers' motivation and force him to carry a massive chip on his shoulder.
