Reactions Split After New Video of LSU-South Carolina Ball Incident

For most of the night in Baton Rouge, South Carolina’s defense did everything it could to keep the Gamecocks in the fight.

The unit forced three turnovers — including a crucial goal-line interception by defensive back Peyton Williams that briefly silenced Tiger Stadium.

But while the defense thrived, the offense failed to turn any of those takeaways into points.

Quarterback LaNorris Sellers was under pressure from the start, finishing 15-of-27 for just 124 yards and an interception.

South Carolina’s offensive line struggled to protect him, leading to constant scrambles and broken plays.

Offensive Line Struggles Lead to Coaching Change

Following the 20–10 loss to LSU, South Carolina fired offensive line coach Lonnie Teasley.

The move comes amid ongoing struggles on the line, which contributed to constant pressure on Sellers and several key penalties.

Shawn Elliott will take over coaching duties for the rest of the season.

The lone offensive highlight came from running back Matt Fuller, who broke loose for a 72-yard touchdown run — the Gamecocks only trip to the end zone all night.

Despite tallying 193 rushing yards, South Carolina couldn’t sustain drives.

They converted just 6-of-15 third downs and committed 13 penalties, nearly triple LSU’s total.

Those mental mistakes and offensive misfires ultimately doomed them in a 20–10 loss, dropping them further out of the 2025 playoff picture.

Viral tunnel chase steals postgame spotlight

Yet even with the disappointing loss, one bizarre sequence became the talk of the night.

Following one of South Carolina’s interceptions, a Gamecock defender appeared to want to keep the football as a souvenir.

Video taken near the South Carolina locker room shows an LSU staff member sprinting after the person to retrieve the ball.

The clip captured the staffer running into the visiting locker room, then emerging moments later with the football in hand, visibly frustrated and shaking his head as he walked away.

The video quickly spread across social media, where fans debated the exchange.

Some argued it was normal for a defender to keep the ball after making an interception, while others called it classless to take a ball that belonged to the home team.

A few fans joked that it wasn’t even the type of play worthy of a spot in someone’s personal trophy case.

In a night defined by defensive grit and offensive frustration, the viral chase perfectly captured the emotional tension of South Carolina’s season: plenty of fight, but not enough finish.
