Deion Sanders took off for business this past week. The Colorado Buffaloes coach nearly traveled coast-to-coast for different reasons. Coach Prime's first stop was in New York City for an event to promote his 'We Got Time Today' show on Tubi. He wasn't there long and was back in the air enroute to Las Vegas.
Sanders was a guest speaker at Epicor Insights 2025 at Mandalay Bay Resort and Casino and talked about why he rushed to sign his extension with Colorado. His reasoning was related to his son, Shilo and Shedeur, going to the NFL. There were also a few orders of business he took care of before inking his deal.
"I tried to hurry up and sign the deal," Sanders said via Well Off Media. "First off, I wanted to get my coaches straight and NIL stuff straight because that stuff is crazy right now. Now it's pay-per-view with these kids. Because I didn't want it to affect my other kids. You know, like those pros thinking I want their jobs and would treat my kids unfairly. So I didn't want that to happen. That's kind of why I signed expeditiously."
Sanders scored a massive win with a five-year, $54 million contract extension that runs through the 2029 season. The new contract makes him one of the highest-paid coaches in the country. Sanders' base salary will nearly double to $10 million and becomes the highest-paid football coach in the Big 12 conference
As it turned out, NFL teams didn't return the favor with Shedeur sliding to the fifth round in the draft. Sanders did everything he could to help feature his sons. Now, Shedeur will try to make an impact with the Cleveland Browns. Shilo went to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers as an undrafted free agent.
