After winning a Big Ten title with the Wolverines in 2021, ex-Michigan football star Cade McNamara was overtaken by rising superstar JJ McCarthy during the 2022 season. Since then, McNamara has transferred to Iowa, where he is expected to be QB1 on the depth chart this year. Today, just a few weeks from Week 1 of the college football season, it was reported that Cade McNamara had a knee issue during fall camp, which forced him to leave practice.

Ex-Michigan football star Cade McNamara leaves practice with knee issue

Cade McNamara is a tough-minded quarterback, but last year, an injury sidelined him for the majority of the Wolverines’ 2022 campaign. That said, when Cade McNamara transferred to Iowa, it was largely believed that he was back to 100%, which may still be accurate; however, earlier today, it was reported that Cade McNamara had to leave fall camp early due to a knee issue of some kind.

“After Cade McNamara scrambled, he fell kind of weird with his right knee,” wrote Scott Dochterman of The Athletic in a Tweet from today’s fall camp practice in Iowa City. “He took himself out, then walked off the field and into the tunnel with Iowa’s training staff.”

After a horrible offensive performance last year, all Iowa fans are looking to ex-Michigan football star and Big Ten Champion quarterback Cade McNamara to lead the Hawkeye offense this fall. There is no word on what the issue is, but with little quarterback depth and the 2023 season rapidly approaching, both Michigan and Iowa fans should be monitoring this situation closely.

Here is the best clip available of the incident:

UPDATES:

  • Early reports believe that it is nothing too serious. Hopefully, these are accurate and McNamara will be ready to go by Week 1.
  • McNamara is back on the field, though is not practicing right now and has taken his helmet and pads off.
