Report: Future College Football Playoff title games could occur in Las Vegas, Miami

Understandably and predictably, College Football Playoff national championship games have become big-money events that attract more than just fans of the schools competing for the title in any given year.

Monday's matchup between the Georgia Bulldogs and Alabama Crimson Tide will occur in Indianapolis, a city that, respectfully, doesn't immediately come to mind when one thinks of winter tourist destinations. ESPN Heather Dinich reports, though, that the CFP's management committee is considering Las Vegas and Miami as hosts of future championship games.

The committee that includes Notre Dame athletic director Jack Swarbrick and 10 FBS commissioners is set to meet in person in Indianapolis on Saturday to discuss, among other things, an expected format change that will likely include expanding the playoff by the 2024 campaign.

"When the CFP format has been finalized for those years, then the management committee will confirm the game dates, then we will talk to potential host cities about the expectations of a host," CFP executive director Bill Hancock explained on Friday. "Then we will select the host cities. We will let you know when we have something to report."

Los Angeles will host the championship game next January, while Houston will have it the following year. Two more seasons remain on the CFP contract, and the locations for those title contests haven't yet been determined.
