Report: Pac-12 could postpone football season on Tuesday

ESPN's Kyle Bonagura is reporting that the Pac-12 Conference could postpone the league's football season on Tuesday due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Sources have told ESPN that it's "highly unlikely" the Pac-12 will conduct a campaign this fall. Instead, the conference will optimistically look to push the season to a springtime format.

The Pac-12 CEO group that consists of one president or chancellor from each member university will vote on the season's existence on Tuesday. Earlier in the day, reports surfaced that the Big Ten could also cancel its season on Tuesday, leaving the ACC, SEC and Big 12 as the only Power 5 conferences still planning to begin seasons on time in late August or September.

President Donald Trump has joined noteworthy players such as Clemson quarterback Trevor Lawrence in tweeting his support for a fall college season despite coronavirus-related concerns. Fall championships for Division III and Division II were canceled last Wednesday due to the pandemic. Those bodies could shift fall seasons to the spring depending on the status of the pandemic at the start of the new year.

The deadline for Division I to make final decisions regarding fall sports is currently set for Aug. 21.
