Report: Penn State ST Coordinator Stacy Collins Accepts Job Elsewhere

Penn State had to replace its offensive coordinator in a November and defensive coordinator in December.

Now, in January, it will have to replace its special teams coordinator.

As first reported by ESPN’s Adam Rittenberg, Stacy Collins is expected to leave Penn State for Boise State after two seasons in State College.

Collins, a Sutherlin, Oregon, native who was Boise State’s special teams coordinator for the 2021 season before taking the Penn State job, would be returning to that position in addition to being a linebackers coach— another role he has at Penn State— and assistant HC. Collins came to Penn State in January 2022, replace Joe Lorig, who left for Oregon.

Over Collins’ tenure, Penn State didn’t receive much, if any, criticism for special teams. In 2022, Barney Amor became one of America’s better punters. This past season, Alex Felkins made most of his field goals, Riley Thompson was a quality punter and Daequan Hardy a first-team all-conference punt returner. So it’s fair to say that Collins did his job.
