Texas quarterback Quinn Ewers may be playing his final home game in Austin this weekend.
No. 3 Texas will host Kentucky for the final regular season home game of the year on Saturday afternoon followed by a road trip to Texas A&M on Nov. 30. Unless the Longhorns are ranked high enough to host a home playoff game this year, it will be the last time Texas fans will witness Ewers take the field at Darrell K Royal-Texas Memorial Stadium.
Texas head coach Steve Sarkisian spoke with the media earlier this week about Ewers' future plans. "No idea," Sarkisian said. Ewers was fairly bland in his response to the media as well. "Who knows? I'm just trying to win this week," he said.
It's unclear if Ewers will participate in Senior Day festivities this weekend, but all signs point toward Texas' signal-caller moving on this offseason. According to Horns247's Chip Brown, the junior is expected to enter the 2025 NFL Draft. This shouldn't come as a shock to many although Ewers' draft stock has certainly taken a hit this season.
Ewers missed 2.5 games due to an abdominal injury earlier this year and has struggled to return to form. Although he's flashed brilliant moments, he's failed to find consistency since the injury.
Prior to the 2024 season kicking off, Ewers was viewed as the Heisman favorite with a first-round draft projection. While the Heisman is now out of reach, Ewers still possesses all the necessary tools to lead Texas to a national title this season.
Ewers has thrown for 1,898 yards and 21 touchdowns this season with six interceptions. The Longhorns will need Ewers to be at his best in order to reach the SEC Championship game and potentially receive a first-round bye in the playoff.
