Deion Sanders' Colorado coaching staff continues to take shape, with Alabama associate defensive coordinator and safeties coach Charles Kelly set to become the Buffaloes' defensive coordinator, multiple media outlets reported Wednesday night.

Kelly, 55, served in his current role with the Crimson Tide since 2019. Before that, the Auburn alumnus worked at his alma mater as a graduate assistant in 1993, then was on the coaching staffs at Jacksonville State (1994-98), Henderson State (1999), Nicholls State (2002-05), Georgia Tech (2006-12), Florida State (2013-17) and Tennessee (2018).

Sanders was hired as Colorado's head coach on Saturday, and he immediately set to work on improving a team that went 1-11 (1-8 Pac-12) this year under Karl Dorrell and later interim coach Mike Sanford.

Sanders, a Pro Football Hall of Famer who arrived in Boulder, Colo., after a successful coaching stint at Jackson State, also told the current Buffaloes players to enter the transfer portal as he plans to bring in newcomers. Among those expected to arrive at Colorado is Sanders' son, Shedeur Sanders, who was the starting quarterback at Jackson State.

Former Kent State head coach Sean Lewis is in line to become Sanders' offensive coordinator, multiple media outlets reported Monday.
