After changing offensive coordinators just a few weeks ago, it appears the Nebraska Huskers will now be changing defensive coordinators.

According to multiple reports, associate head coach and defensive coordinator Tony White is expected to be hired for the same role at Florida State. On3 was the first to report the news.

White has spent the past two seasons at Nebraska, turning the Huskers into one of the top defenses in the country.

He helped the Blackshirts into a top-15 defense in 2023, and the unit ranks 19th in total defense and 20th in scoring defense in 2024.

White was a nominee for the Broyles Award, which is given to the top assistant coach in college football, each of the past two seasons but was surprisingly left off this season.

Under him, the Huskers have also done well recruiting defensive players. The top three recruits in Nebraska's 2025 class, per the 247Sports Composite, are defensive players, and he also previously helped land premier recruits like Willis McGahee IV and Vincent Shavers, who made impacts as true freshmen this season.

Before coming to Nebraska, he coached at Syracuse, Arizona State and UCLA, holding various roles including defensive coordinator and passing game coordinator, and he was the recruiting coordinator at San Diego State.

He and head coach Matt Rhule may not have been perfect fits but White undoubtedly delivered results and will leave a big hole to fill if he departs. Neither program has confirmed a move thus far, so it's also unclear who would coach the Huskers defense in the bowl game.
