Tennessee missed out on a 2024 recruit and past official visitor today. That recruit is Roger Saleapaga, who is a 6’4 220-pound tight end from Orem High School in Orem, Utah. He committed at 6 p.m. Utah time and 8 p.m. Eastern time. He is an On3 consensus-ranked three-star tight end, and his highest ranking comes from Rivals, in which he is a four-star.

Saleapaga committed to Oregon, where Oregon was the run-away favorite for the Utah tight end prospect for awhile. 247Sports Director of Football Recruiting Steve Wiltfong put in a crystal ball prediction back on October 13th for Oregon, along with Blair Angulo, who is the Mountain Region Recruiting Analyst for 247Sports. As of earlier today, On3 had a 95.1% lean for the Ducks as well.

Many believe Tennessee was the runner-up for the talented Utah high school student athlete. When he spoke with Volunteer Country in November following his visit, he stated, “It was like no other! I’ve heard a lot of stories about Neyland Stadium, and it was way better in person. It was the loudest and most electrifying stadium I’ve been to!"He also stated, “It was great! There’s a reason why I took one to Tennessee. Tennessee is VERY HIGH on my board,” when asked about his official visit.

This is not the first target that Oregon took that Tennessee wanted to land in the 2024 class. Former top-edge target and current five-star Elijah Rushing, current five-star Aydin Breland, and current four-star Jordan Anderson are among the names of players Tennessee wanted to land but ultimately went to Oregon instead.
