BYU running back Pokaiaua Haunga has left the program for personal reasons, per Mitch Harper.
In limited action last season, the 5-foot-11 halfback tallied 18 carries for 81 yards. He showed flashes of his ability to be a threat in the passing game as well, recording five catches for 43 yards.
Haunga averaged a strong 4.5 yards per game, as the Cougars finished the 2024 season with an overall record of 11-2. The team finished second in the Big 12 conference (7-2).

Out of high school, the Provo, Utah native was a three-star prospect and ranked as the No. 5 overall prospect out of his hometown state.
BYU’s backfield now consists of redshirt junior LJ Martin and sophomore Sione Moa. Martin led the way last season with 718 rushing yards and seven touchdowns, while Moa added 144 yards and three touchdowns.
The Cougars have clinched a bowl game appearance in six out of the last seven seasons. Head coach Kalani Strike enters his 10th season leading the program and looks to improve his 5-2 career record in bowl games.
To open up the 2025 season, BYU will take on Portland State at home on Saturday, Aug. 30, at 8 p.m.
